It doesn't matter who made the mess when there is one to clean up. It doesn't even matter how long it's been there, or how it even got there in the first place.
What does matter -- who is there with a mop and a snack to say -- I've got your back, where can I help?
Showing up ready to help is undeniably a great characteristic in a partner -- but what happens when you're both going through it? What happens if you're both experiencing something (whether individually or as a couple) - how do you clean the mess? You clean it TOGETHER.
Showing up for each other means doing it even when you're having a hard time or not in the space to do so. It doesn't mean give up. It means - give into the humanity of it.
Love doesn't have to be perfect; but it does have to be real.
