Changing Australia: Meredith Cummins and improving treatment for rare disease
Manage episode 490854536 series 2902253
Rare cancers can be extremely difficult to diagnose, and it can take years of misdiagnoses before a culprit is found and patients get adequate treatment.
Meredith Cummins sees this a lot. An oncology nurse for 40 years, she now supports and advocates for sufferers of a set of rare cancers.
And last year, she also helped lead a fierce campaign to have a drug that treats a rare tumour-causing disorder listed on the pharmaceutical benefits scheme. It used to cost $12,000 a month, now it's just over $30.
Guest: Meredith Cummins is the CEO of NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia
