Joint Council of Closing the Gap gathers in Darwin
Manage episode 489610969 series 2902253
Calls continue to grow for more action on preventing deaths in custody, especially preventable deaths involving Indigenous and First Nations peoples.
In joining these calls, the Australian Human Rights Commission says 12 Aboriginal people have died in custody so far this year. That's almost 600 deaths since the 1991 Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. It will be a key topic at the Joint Council of Closing the Gap, which takes place in Darwin tomorrow.
Guest: Adjunct Professor Scott Wilson, acting convener, Coalition of Peaks. He's also CEO of the Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Council in South Australia.
