Australia's prisoner numbers have hit a record high, with just over 46-thousand people in custody, according to the latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Of those behind bars, about thirty-seven per cent are First Nations people with data also showing the Indigenous community has the highest imprisonment rate.
