The South Australian government is trying to make clear who owns the Whyalla Port, amid a legal fight to take control of the facility from the former owner of the Whyalla steelworks.

Premier Peter Malinauskas has announced the government will introduce amendments to the Whyalla Steelworks Act 1958, clarifying ownership of the strategic port.

The steel plant was placed into administration in February, with GFG Alliance owing creditors more than a billion dollars.
