In this episode of GOOD DEEDS, host Nanette Wiser previews the 3rd Annual Word Play 2025, a crossword competition and fundraiser for the non-profit Voices of Hope for Aphasia. We chatted with writer/actor David Warner (immediate past president of Creative Pinellas who dreamed up the idea) and Executive Director Debbie Yones, M.S., CCC-SLP. Debbie has said that Word Play is about “playing with words to highlight the impact of losing them.” It’s been very successful both in raising the profile of the organization and in providing support for people with language disorders due to stroke, brain tumor or traumatic brain injury. vohaphasia.org
**An evening of fun, games, and giving! On Thursday, May 15 6:30-9:30 Voices of Hope for Aphasia will host its Word Play event at Banquet Masters. It will be a fun-filled night of word-game competitions, drinks, buffet dinner, live & silent auctions, awards presentation and opportunities to support Voices of Hope for Aphasia, with a special tribute to Tampa Bay’s own puzzle master, the late Merl Reagle, the nationally known and syndicated crossword puzzle constructor. TICKETS: bit.ly/wordplay2025
Banquet Masters 13355 49th Street North Clearwater, FL (SE Corner of Ulmerton and 49th St)
**Voices of Hope for Aphasia reconnects people living with aphasia, in the Tampa Bay area and across the country, with their lives through innovative programs. Their programs enhance quality of life through successful experiences, improve the communication accessibility of the community, foster communication in groups, provide training and tools to improve relationships with family and friends, promote collaboration and growth of the aphasia community, and educate the public about aphasia. They are a place where the voices of people living with aphasia are acknowledged. We work to provide the communication bridges that will help people with aphasia do the things that are most important to them, and take part in their own life.
