A few months ago, I did a podcast episode with Dr. Em Wong called How to Live Vibrantly to 100. In that episode, we talked about the importance of social ties and friendships as we age. Building and maintaining connections is one of the key factors for healthy aging.

But let’s be honest, making friends and staying connected can be a challenge for many people, myself included.

My husband and I had a hard time making friends during our first years on the road, which put a lot of pressure on our relationship, as we were each other's only source of companionship.
In the past two years, we've made a concerted effort to meet new people and now have a wonderful circle of friends.

In today's episode, I share 5 things that have helped us along the way, including:

  1. Attending events designed for making friends
  2. Being vulnerable about what you're looking for
  3. Asking for contact information
  4. Scheduling regular follow-up conversations
  5. Organizing friend events yourself

If you're anything like me, many of these activities might be outside your comfort zone, but the payoff is worth it!
