The images and stories of the Old Testament are types and shadows for what God would do when Jesus came. Noah released a dove in Genesis 8, and that occurrence is an image of what would come. At Jesus' baptism, the Holy Spirit came as a dove on Jesus. Today, that dove is in our midst to release our identity as sons and daughters.
