US President Trump's latest executive order to fast-track approvals for deep sea mining - both in the US and international waters - has been welcomed by The Metals Company, the Canadian firm that lobbied the government for these expedited permits.

But the race to the seabed has sparked fears among environmentalists that this could permanently damage marine life and undermine the International Seabed Authority.
