Australia's former Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has visited Moscow for talks with Russian officials — in her current role as UN Special Envoy for Myanmar.

She's posted pictures online of her meeting with officials in Vladimir Putin's government.

The visit came in the same week that Russia signed an investment agreement with Myanmar, aimed at expanding opportunities for Russian companies in the strife-torn country.
