The Trump administration has hit back at claims that its job cuts made it harder to accurately predict the severity of the floods in Texas with the White House press secretary describing the criticisms as 'a depraved lie'.

More than 90 people were killed after massive downpours caused the Guadalupe River to surge almost ten metres in just 90 minutes at the weekend — with some locals accusing the National Weather Service of failing to predict the scale of the rain.
