The cancellation of Stephen Colbert's top-rating CBS late-night show has shocked the US media industry, as well as television viewers.
It comes just days after he criticised parent company Paramount Global's decision to pay $16 million to settle a legal dispute with US President Donald Trump regarding an interview it broadcast on CBS with former Vice-President Kamala Harris.
Meanwhile, significant budget cuts to public broadcasters PBS and NPR are locked in.
