YouTube ban for under-16s: What do teenagers think?
Manage episode 497280064 series 5428
YouTube had previously been slated for an exemption on the basis of its educational uses, before the e-safety commissioner scrutinised this position.
But what do teenagers themselves make of it?
- Guest: Leo Puglisi, Founder of 6 News Australia and high school student
- Producer: Max Chalmers
Statement attributable to a YouTube Spokesperson:
"We share the Government's goal of addressing and reducing online harms. Our position remains clear: YouTube is a video sharing platform with a library of free, high-quality content, increasingly viewed on TV screens. It’s not social media. The Government’s announcement today reverses a clear, public commitment to exclude YouTube from this ban. We will consider next steps and will continue to engage with the Government.”
