If you're familiar with the name Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, there's a lot more to it than the former First Lady of Canada. A best-selling author, celebrated public speaker, and a passionate mental health advocate, Sophie has championed gender equality, female empowerment, youth self-esteem, and the importance of physical activity for over two decades.

In her first book, Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other, Sophie explores the science behind brain health, emotional intelligence, and our unique emotional signatures, drawing on her personal journey and interviews with a wide range of experts in neuroscience, mindfulness, mental health and more. She candidly shares her own struggles with learning to love herself, and it's this vulnerability that makes it such a special read.

Between some serious heart-to-heart topics and a few giggles, we discussed:

  • The root cause of stress as a dysfunctional relationship with the present moment – i.e. being "here" and wanting to be "there"
  • As women, we don't have patience with ourselves, we’re not taught we are worthy of rest
  • Women who put their own needs last have a substantially greater chance of suffering from autoimmune diseases like MS, fibromyalgia and lupus
  • The rhythm of love is slow – how can we truly love when we are stressed and our energy is frenetic and panicked?
  • The importance of unstructured play in every relationship
  • Don't miss the amazing breathwork exercise Sophie leads at the end of our chat! Tap into the vagus nerve and calm the F down
