Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for June 24th. Now, here's something refreshing to think about – today is Swim a Lap Day.

Yes, an entire day dedicated to doing a lap in the pool. Not 30, not a full Ironman, just… one lap. It's the kind of holiday that meets you where you are – even if that's just dipping your toe in and calling it cardio. So whether you're a competitive swimmer or someone who prefers floating with a drink in hand, Swim a Lap Day is a gentle reminder to move your body and maybe even challenge yourself to do something a little outside your comfort zone – preferably without losing your goggles halfway through.

That brings us to today's quote, from none other than Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps:

“You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.”

Now, let’s take a moment to swim through that one. Phelps didn’t become the most decorated Olympian by setting small goals or staying in the shallow end. He dreamed big – and then trained bigger. But notice how he ties dreaming to distance. The farther you allow yourself to imagine, the farther you actually move.

And that’s the beauty of Swim a Lap Day. It’s not really about the lap – it’s about starting. About pushing off from the wall, even when the water’s cold and the lane looks long. It's a metaphor for any goal you’ve been circling around. The first lap might be the hardest, but it's also the most important.

So today, whether you're swimming a literal lap or taking a figurative plunge into something new – just remember: there's no limit on how far you can go… unless you put one there. I hope you find a way to take that first stroke, wherever it may lead. and maybe keep a towel nearby, just in case.

I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back tomorrow - same pod time, same pod station with another Daily Quote. Take care.
