I'm excited to host today's solo episode. We'll be continuing our series on Informed Consent with a critical discussion on male circumcision.
This conversation is only addressing male circumcision because in 1996 federal laws were passed banning female genital cutting in the USA - (but male circumcision is still done as a routine procedure on the daily)
This is a heated conversation, and even if you are a girl-mom I still encourage you to listen as this is an issue that affects us as a WHOLE. Circumcision fundamentally changes the boy forever.
For those of you who don’t know - Circumcisions is the most common surgery in the USA. It is the surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis and it It is typically performed within the first few days of a baby’s life.
I include that there are 127 references of why circumcision is of no value in the New Testament. If we want to claim Christianity as the reason to cut our sons - wasn’t Jesus the last blood / flesh offering on behalf of humanity?
Hospitals and out patient surgeries are not required to keep record of botched procedures, or in the instances of death.
As this is an informed consent episode I want to note that yes, my bias shows AND I list the "proposed" benefits, and the inherent risks that accompany circumcision.
