For most high-achieving women, their jobs give them a great deal of purpose and meaning. In retirement, you may find yourself searching for ways to feel that same sense of purpose and meaning. One of the options to explore could be the Peace Corps.

In this episode, Kate Raftery takes us on a journey of discovery about the many benefits of serving in the Peace Corps as a 50+ volunteer.

We're talking about everything from what is the Peace Corp to how the experience and wisdom of a 50+ volunteer benefits the communities served, as well as younger volunteers to what is provided to volunteers by the Peace Corps ~ training, healthcare, reintegration planning, etc. and much more.

Kate currently serves as a Senior Advisor at Peace Corps. Previously, Kate was the Country Director for Peace Corps Paraguay. Prior to that role, she was the Sexual Assault Risk Reduction and Response Program Team Lead in the Office of the Director at Peace Corps. She also served as the Director of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). And as the Vice President for Learning and Citizenship at the International Youth Foundation where she worked with young people across the globe to increase their participation in political dialogue and community service. Kate was also the Executive Director of the National Park Foundation and Vice President of Partners of the Americas.

In addition to her current position, Kate has held various positions at Peace Corps including Chief of Operations for Inter-America and the Pacific Region AND Country Director in Honduras, Peru and the Eastern Caribbean. Kate began her journey with Peace Corps as a Volunteer in Paraguay in the early ‘70s. Over the last 35 years, Kate has been sharing her adventures with her daughter Elizabeth Gabriela.
