Manage episode 480718870 series 3560181
What if your biggest career breakthrough came from saying “yes” to something that wasn’t part of the plan?
In this episode, I’m joined by Aaron Werner, Executive Director of Visit McKinney, as we explore his inspiring journey from Florida to Texas—and how a passion for community turned into a fulfilling career in municipal leadership.
First off, Aaron shares how an unexpected start in marketing opened the door to public service. What began as a job quickly became a calling, as he found purpose in promoting McKinney’s vibrant, growing community.
We’ll also dive into the often-overlooked power of mentorship. From navigating imposter syndrome to building leadership confidence, Aaron and I open up about the challenges young leaders face and the value of seeking guidance from those who’ve walked the path before us. It’s a powerful reminder that growth starts when we focus on what we can control—our mindset, our habits, and our willingness to keep learning.
But this conversation goes deeper than just career advice. We reflect on how faith and values intersect with professional life, even in secular roles. Aaron brings thoughtful insights into what it looks like to lead with integrity, create genuine connections, and embrace the idea of marketplace ministry—bringing light into everyday leadership through ethical, intentional action.
