Voice of the Twins Kris Atteberry looks back on outrageous Canaries days and his climb to the big leagues
Manage episode 482573310 series 3624102
To make your dreams come true, sometimes you have to jump through hoops.
Or, in Kris Atteberry's case, you have to call a maniac's slalom through a flaming hoop while he catches on fire and sets the Sioux Falls Canaries' field ablaze.
After all, that caused a delay in the game, and Atteberry also had to fill the time as the Birds' play-by-play man in 1999.
Over a quarter-century later, he's in "the show" as the radio voice of the Minnesota Twins, and he experienced a delay in getting there, filling the time as the man on the mic for the St. Paul Saints — the Savannah Bananas before the Savannah Bananas — and then 17 seasons as the backup play-by-play Twins voice.
Atteberry tells several hilarious stories that marked that time, how he dealt with not getting "the call" to become the main man the first time around 12 years ago, and what it is like now to finally live the dream alongside Twins legend Dan Gladden every day.
Toward the end, a dive into how the Twins have turned their tepid season around with an eight-game winning streak, at least for now.
