With the Fourth of July behind us, we now look to the dog days of summer and fire season across much of the West. But, with historic levels of snowpack in the Sierra, what does our overall fire risk look like? And what can we do to help protect ourselves?
This week, the Sierra Nevada Ally's Richard Bednarski takes over the show, and chats with a local property owner about how he has built green, defensible space around his property for more than 40 years. Then, he calls up the National Interagency Fire Center, or NIFC, in Boise to learn more about how wildfire response happens and how the center works.

This show is made possible by Press Forward, a national coalition investing more than $500 million to strengthen local newsrooms and close longstanding gaps in journalism coverage.

And from our readers and listeners at sierranevadaally.org.

Music for the show comes from local band, People with Bodies.
