His insight into these iconic institutions led to the development of his book, Black Knights and Fighting Irish: A Rivalry, a Game, and America One Year After the End of World War II, which provides little-known aspects of the great American game during one of the darkest periods of U.S. history.

Richard personally interviewed several key figures involved in the “game of the century” and delivers inside information that would have otherwise been lost to history.

In addition to his in-depth football knowledge, Richard is a retired lieutenant colonel of infantry who served two tours during the Vietnam War. Today, he lives in Florida with his family.
