When is the appropriate age to be convicted as an adult? Should it be determined by the criminal act itself, or by the individual’s mental stability? In 2022, a 10-year-old boy accessed his mother’s lockbox and used her own weapon against her. Although there is testimony suggesting his actions were intentional, the court system is still deliberating whether convicting a 10-year-old child and sentencing him to 60 years in prison is an appropriate punishment for his mother’s death. This is the tragic case of Quiana Mann.
