Leave the Old Life Behind

Scripture: Ephesians 4:17–19

“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.”

Explanation:
Paul strongly urges believers to leave behind the thinking and behaviors that once defined their lives without Christ. The old life is marked by spiritual blindness, selfishness, and hardness of heart. These patterns disconnect us from the life God offers.

Application:
You are no longer who you used to be. Don’t let old habits or mindsets define you now. Ask God to expose anything in your life that still reflects your “old self,” and seek help from your community to overcome it.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What old patterns or thoughts are still trying to pull you back?

  2. How can your life group help you reject these habits?

  3. Why is it dangerous to ignore spiritual blindness or hard-heartedness?
