Ken's a futurist, with a systems lens.

Someone's who's trained to think, plan, and implement for the future.

As such he's deeply connected to the people in Humboldt who do just that. In terms of development, energy, agriculture, tourism, and the economy as a whole.

He's invited myself as well as a number of others from here and the surrounding counties to participate in some of these conversations.

I find it fascinating, and so resonant.

He also really values the voice of the younger generation, as he understands that we'll be living through some of the most drastic change ever.

Him and his are great hosts, and they love the Soul Garden project.

What I really enjoyed learning:

  • Two years of planning and work and we can set ourselves up for the next twenty in terms of food sovereignty, energy, and housing, Humboldt's going to grow, a lot, in the coming years.
  • Hempcrete: A regenerative building material that's carbon negative, highly fire resistant, naturally insulating, and grown from the Earth. Ken has plans for a seed to construction full circle, local production.
  • Seeing the future of Humboldt as an ecological tourist destination that other communities can come and learn from our models and systems. Nature being one of our strongest assets.
  • Polytechnic means learning through doing. Setting up the educational model to embrace and prepare for our collective future, which means climate change.

-

Ken's definition of regeneration is generational thinking.

Appreciate y'a Ken.

Definitely a gift to the community.
