Gallagher’s Pitching Gem Leads South Bend Cubs to 5–0 Shutout Over TinCaps

It was a picture-perfect day at Four Winds Field, and the South Bend Cubs made sure the fans went home happy with a commanding 5–0 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Behind dominant pitching, timely hitting, and crisp defense, South Bend improved their standing with one of their most complete performances of the season.

The story of the day was Ryan Gallagher, who delivered a masterclass on the mound. The right-hander pitched six innings of no-hit baseball, racking up eight strikeouts while walking just one. Gallagher was in total control from the first pitch, keeping TinCaps hitters off balance with a mix of fastballs, breaking balls, and pinpoint command. His performance set the tone early and gave the Cubs a strong foundation.

After Gallagher’s dominant outing, the Cubs bullpen kept the momentum going. Luis Rujano took over in the seventh and kept the no-hitter alive for one more inning before the TinCaps finally broke through with a hit in the eighth. Sam Thoresen came in to close things out in the ninth, sealing the combined shutout and allowing just the third Fort Wayne hit of the day.

While the pitching stole the headlines, the offense gave the arms plenty of breathing room early. The Cubs came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning, plating four runs to take immediate control. Catcher Miguel Pabón was at the heart of the rally, delivering two RBI singles in the inning as the Cubs batted around. Pabón also had a strong day behind the plate, managing the pitching staff with poise and precision.

South Bend tacked on another run later in the game, but with the way the pitching staff performed, it was more than enough. The win showcased what the Cubs are capable of when everything clicks — elite pitching, timely hitting, and sharp fielding all coming together.

With the shutout win, the Cubs continue to build momentum as they progress through the season. The hometown crowd was treated to sunshine, strikeouts, and a statement win.
