Introducing Story Ark: tales from southern Africa's tipping points
Manage episode 486845333 series 3669731
Welcome to Story Ark, where investigative journalism meets immersive storytelling in a voyage around Southern Africa that’s documenting how the climate crisis is unfolding on our doorstep, in our lifetime.
Join me, science journalist and author Leonie Joubert, on a road trip as I go in search of the invisible and untold stories that unfold far from newsrooms. I’m also unearthing possible solutions to the pressing social and environmental justice issues that surface along the way. Story Ark aims to inform our public conversation and stoke active citizens in a way that supports more resilient and responsive communities in these disquieting times.
The name Story Ark draws on the importance of storytelling and how we can use it to create a Noah’s ark for ecological, cultural and social conservation.
The stories you’ll hear on this podcast are the audio versions of long-form pieces I’m writing for various media houses as I go. These sound-stories are generated using an AI voice clone that’s trained to sound like me… which are unnerving true to life.
By following this podcast, you’ll also get to hear occasional dispatches from the field. Think of them as the captain’s log, which will give you the behind-the-scenes goings-on of the crew of the good ship Story Ark: that’s me, and the cat called Mouse, chief navigator and plucky comic relief.
