Bali Singh shares his inspiring journey from washing dishes as an immigrant in the U.S. to becoming a successful restaurant owner. Today we are discussing the challenges he faced, the importance of teamwork, customer service, and adapting to change in the restaurant industry.

Bali's entry into the restaurant industry was not a straightforward path. He joined a restaurant called Clay Pit in Austin, Texas, as a partner after it had already been established. His journey in the restaurant business was marked by ambition and a desire to excel beyond just being a cook. He wanted to be involved in every aspect of the restaurant, from cooking to management.

Running a restaurant is not a one-person job. It requires a team effort, and he believes in earning the respect of his staff by working alongside them. "To earn respect in your kitchen, you have to be one of them. You have to show them that whatever you're doing, I can do it along with you." This hands-on approach not only builds trust but also fosters a strong team dynamic.

There is nothing more important than customer service in the restaurant business. Great food can be overshadowed by poor service. "If the food is very good but the customer service is bad, I'll just make it to go.”

Bali’s story serves as an inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially those in the restaurant industry. As he continues to innovate and adapt, Bali remains passionate about his work and committed to providing exceptional dining experiences at Clay Pit and beyond.

If you're ever in Austin, Texas, be sure to visit Clay Pit for a taste of high-end Indian cuisine that reflects Bali's dedication and love for food.
