Dealing with Change by Steve Adams
This past week, I had occasion to do a job in my hometown. I left the house early and drove to the old stomping ground arriving about 7:30am. It was nice to see familiar landmarks and places I have visited or worked in my youth. The 7-11 was still there but Corbin’s Store was long closed and overgrown. Further along, some of the old farms that I knew were now growing houses while others still have crops.
I remember driving from home to work which took exactly 15 minutes, but I noted with concern that the traffic and roads were now clogged and the same trip took well over a half an hour.
While I wish for the good old days, change is inevitable. I think it is one of the hardest things I deal with and some people are better equipped than I am. I realized that the key to advancement is fostering healthy growth that supports our well being and not trying to force things to be as they were 40 years ago. That is not always easy!
