NHTSA focuses on hot car danger awareness
Manage episode 499020395 series 3128428
Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. It happens every year. Dozens of children in the U.S. lose their lives in hot cars during the summer months. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is partnering with the Ad Council to increase awareness. NHTSA’s Laura Dunn says sometimes it is forgetfulness …
“We see this more of younger kids. About a quarter of all heat stroke deaths happen when a child gets into a vehicle on their own and becomes trapped. And then the last kind of quarter is when children are intentionally left in a vehicle usually by a parent or caregiver because they want to do a quick errand or something of that nature and it ends up taking longer than they think it will.”
There are new child detection technologies…some automakers are already offering….with hopefully many more to come.
