Sage Against the Machine

Decolonization, Assimilation, Acculturation, Adulteration

Native people. Indigenous. Onkwehonwe, the original people of this continent.

We have a bright future ahead of us, as we clamber out of the rubble of history and into our bright new future. We build that future now, the choices we make today will carry forward, and determine if our communities in our cultures survive, thrive, or wither away into nothing.

Niche as hell? Absolutely. However, we share many of the same challenges, in all peoples might be able to glean a nugget of truth, or an ember of an idea that will spread into a flame.

Change is constant, and times they are a changin' politically, socially and economically. Our guest today believes she is one of the people to help our community weather the oncoming challenges, many of which may be more unfriendly towards our community, our nation, and all Onkwehonwe, the Original People of this land.

Beverly Cook has acted in the role of elected leadership of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council for a decade. She has championed many causes, including protecting and upholding The Indigenous Child Welfare Act, bringing awareness to mental health, trauma informed care, and presides over the recent Land Claim settlement of the 1794 treaty.

As a long time incumbent we are able to get deeper in the weeds on some of the matters we have discussed here on Sage, and get a point of view from someone on the inside.

Follow our feed for more discussions in the future.
