Mollie Engelhart has one of the most eclectic backgrounds you may ever meet. She grew up on a farm in upstate New York before heading to California to study film at the prestigious, Disney-founded California Institute of the Arts. From there, she worked in A&R at Sony and became a recording artist herself, before taking on a new challenge by founding the vegan restaurants KindKreme and Sage. But when she started growing her own food on her own farmland to stock her restaurants' kitchens, she discovered an ever-mounting web of red tape and an avalanche of ridiculous overregulation that seemed contrary to every Californian's granola-fueled dreams of environmental friendliness and clean living. So, like many California residents, she picked up stakes and relocated to the Republic of Texas, building a farm, restaurant, brewery at Sovereignty Ranch, a 200-acre patch of unspoiled Hill Country near San Antonio. In this episode, she joins Victoria to share some incredible stories about her challenges in California, her philosophy of regenerative agriculture, and the looming health & environmental crises we may be facing if we fail to re-think how we feed ourselves.
