Since the U.S. president has been talking about annexing Canada, there's been a surge of pride in Canadian identity. Yet over many years, Canadians have struggled to define their culture as separate from the U.S. since the two are intertwined, especially as it relates to most genres of the arts. What set Canada apart? And do Canadian art and artists need a renaissance?
