The apostle Peter wrote this second letter to Christians, both Jews and Gentiles who were scattered throughout Asia Minor, while Peter was in Rome. It was written close to the time of his death. Historically, Peter died a martyr in Rome around AD 67-68, and traditionally it is said he chose to be crucified upside down because he did not feel worthy to die in the same way as his Lord Jesus. In this letter he encouraged his readers to know and be faithful to God and His message, to beware of false teachers, and to be ready for Christ's return.
