China do Estácio with kits of food for the most vulnerable bateria members.

Organized by sambista China do Estácio Master Samba Composer from Estácio de Sá, the campaign has been mobilizing bateria Mestres from various Samba Schools with the aim of collecting supplies (food, cleaning and hygiene products) to help its members who are in a vulnerable situation. “Many members live in communities and are going through a delicate time in their homes. The intention is that we can join in this action of solidarity ”. For this, each drum master has registered their bateria members who need help.

Ritmo Solidário

China do Estácio started Ritmo Solidário to help vulnerable members of samba school baterias of Rio.

If samba has touched your life, or the life of someone close to you, please look into this chance to say thank you.

Rhythm Solidarity - Ritmo Solidário - began in April, when China da Estácio saw on the news a famous mestre in a queue to receive basic supplies. In Rio de Janeiro the pandemic has put many samba people out of work and at risk. In response, Mestre China called on the great samba baterias to come together to provide basic supplies for vulnerable members.

Volunteers have distributed over 1250 packages - each one with essential hygiene products and food to sustain a small family for two to three weeks. In the first round, supplies were delivered to 30 people in each of 28 communities.

Until now all donations have come from inside Rio in the form of material products. To provide for a second round and to extend it to help more people, the project started a “Vakinha” crowdfunder.

It costs R$80,00 to assemble one package (about £12.50 - 14,00€ - US$15.50). Each one helps to keep a family safe and well.
