In this barefoot Boulder broadcast, I’m joined by Yoshua Greenfield (formerly Josh of Brothers Green), a fearless fermenter, regenerative farmer, and unapologetically off-grid dad. Together, we explore the ancient art and modern magic of fermentation—from the simplicity of sauerkraut to indigenous spit beer (chicha)—and the deeper meaning behind preserving and enlivening our superfoods and ourselves.

Yoshua showed up barefoot with fresh goat milk, pickled eggs, and a book featuring him as a wild child on the cover. We discussed his 15-month-old daughter thriving on raw liver and raw milk, never having seen a doctor or received a vaccine. We also examined his feet (literally) and talked about the risk-reward ratio of going barefoot, while strolling through stories of his foot-doctor family background.

We also reflected on the uncanny timing of our personal journeys—both going through divorces and landing in Boulder around the same time—only to now find ourselves rooted, thriving, and rarely leaving, almost like local legends who let the land lead.

This episode weaves together themes from recent guests—Alice from The Golden Hoof, Andre from Jacob Springs, and Sean the honey whisperer—into an idea: what if we hosted an immersive Boulder-based Breaking Normal retreat? Think: honey harvesting, bison butchering, cow and goat milking, wild fermentation, and radical connection.

A feast for the soul and stomach alike—tune in and taste what it means to live fermented, free, and fully alive.
