Jeffrey Lai is a social entrepreneur working with communities in Melbourne’s West. A first-generation migrant from Hong Kong, Jeff has lived in the West ever since arriving when he was 3 years old.

Passionate about education and becoming ever more aware of the disparities in career and education outcomes experienced by young people in his community, he founded Equal Ed, a social enterprise that aims to empower young people as drivers of change through academic support, networks, skills and active involvement.

In a past life, he studied neuroscience and did a brief stint in banking before deciding that lab work and corporate life was not for him. These days he’ll still get super excited when meeting someone doing neuro research and tries to apply the small amount of banking knowledge he has into running his business whenever he can.
