What do you make of the creature's brazen behavior that night? Despite being in a populated area, it seemed unafraid of human attention - one might even say aggressive in its display. Could such an encounter suggest an intelligence toying with the witnesses? Or could simpler factors like territorial instinct coupled with the cover of darkness offer an explanation? One wonders how many times over the years such a creature may have used the sprawling network of alleyways, abandoned lots, and drainage culverts that crisscross the city to move unseen, a shadow among shadows.

There's a long history of strange sightings in the liminal spaces where city meets desert in the Southwest. From the Skinwalkers of Navajo tradition to the more recent rash of Chupacabra sightings, there seems to be something about these borderlands that attracts or perhaps manifests the unexplained. Could the rapid postwar development of El Paso have disturbed something ancient slumbering beneath the desert soil? Or do these creatures simply gravitate to the edges, the spaces where wildness still abuts our human world?
