Ep 33 - Before 377 was decriminalized, it took away people's pride - The story of Professor Ramchandra Siras

If you know the history of Article 377, you would know it's not an Indian law. It was introduced in 1860 by British law in the IPC.
Article 377 considered all unnatural sex as a punishable offense including sex between same-sex with consenting adults and sex with animals. These acts were considered acts against nature. It was used by Britishers in their colonization as sodomy was considered a punishable offense.
But in a historic event in 2018, on 6 September 5, -the judge bench unanimously dismissed Section 377 and it de-criminalized same-sex consensual sex, keeping sex against kids and animals a punishable offense.
But before Section 377 was legalized, there were people who were trying to live their life authentically but couldn't. Professor Ramchandra Srinivas Siras gave his whole life to teaching the Marathi language at Aligarh Muslim College. He was well-known for his work, for his teaching skills, and knowledge. He was well-respected but everything changed when two students, disguised as journalists forcefully entered his house and filmed him having consensual sex with another man.
Soon, he was suspended from his job, and he was ridiculed and harassed but he didn't back out from a fight. The fought to live his truth, his authentic self and he fought till his last breath.......
