When the US Department of Treasury announced it's plans to sanction the victims of ransomware attacks who pay the ransom, industry professionals were surprised by the move. Largely seen as well-intentioned, but misguided, the move prompted Cybersecurity Lawyer, Sarah Anderson, of the law firm Alexander Sides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to write about it on her Cyber Law Blog.
