This week, we’ve got a referee in the studio – so no shouting at the telly for an hour, alright? 😂
We’re joined by the legendary Michael Walsh, a man with over 50 years of soccer experience under his belt. From his early days as a player (before a back injury cut things short), to becoming one of the most respected referees in junior football, Michael has done it all – and then some.
He’s reffed FAI Junior Cup games, Oscar Traynor matches, and was a driving force behind Carlow’s referee training, growing the ranks from just 7 officials in 1993 to 26 by 1996. 🙌
He later became a referee observer and assessor for 25 years before joining the Carlow & District League executive committee – and just last week, he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award. 👏
It’s a rare (and very welcome) treat to hear things from the referee’s side – and not just us giving out about them for once! A brilliant chat full of stories, insights, and a look at the man behind the whistle.
