Treva Reid | From Student Council to City Council
Manage episode 457833725 series 3594161
Councilmember Treva Reid is a resilient single mother and community builder. Her passion for serving stems from growing up in a large, civically engaged family where her great-grandmother’s faith and political activism informed their values. As a young single mother in college working multiple jobs, she leveraged strengths from her upbringing to provide for her daughter and graduate from Hampton University. Throughout her career, Councilmember Reid has served in state government as a Senior Aide to Senator Nancy Skinner when she was in the State Assembly and State Budget Chair, leading on policies and delivering funding that benefited Oakland. She also served as an Associate for California Assembly District 18 on the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee, is an Emerge California Alumna, and serves as a licensed minister at Shiloh Church, a State Policy Advisor for Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA), and with her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Since being elected as District 7’s Councilmember in November 2020, Councilmember Reid has held to her promise to tirelessly work to move East Oakland forward, championing the priorities of her community. During her tenure, she has prioritized public safety, education, business development, and essential resource accessibility for the Deep East Oakland community.
Today, we draw the connection from Treva's impressive career back to her roots in the city of Cincinnati, and at the School for Creative and Performing Arts, where she first met Tim, Rex and Ron.
