The huge distances involved in communicating with possible alien civilisations means that it would take centuries to have a conversation governed by the speed of light. But a new idea known as Quantum Tunnelling means that we may be able to talk to our next door neighbours, in space, in real time. The method for this communication could also mean that aliens have been using novel methods to communicate with humans telepathically - something we know is a trait of many close encounters.
