#3 Find Significance by Asking the Right Questions -- Dan Rothstein and Building Democracy
Manage episode 478504761 series 3658543
In their book, THE QUEST FOR SIGNIFICANCE: Harnessing the Need that Makes the World Go Round, Professor Arie Kruglanski and journalist Dan Raviv find that from the beginning of human activity on Earth, everyone has tried to make their life matter -- but how? It isn't always about money or fancy titles or political power.
Dan Rothstein, co-founder of the Right Question Institute -- based in the Boston area -- helps students, teachers, and communities find dignity and self-respect by asking questions: demanding that "authorities" give clear answers.
Rothstein is now directing the democracy-building activities of RQI, and he chats with Kruglanski and Raviv to identify some of the basic needs that people crave -- and how actions such as his Question Formulation Technique can help them acquire Significance.
Among Rothstein's books is Make Just One Change: Teach Students to Ask Their Own Questions.
