S2, E11: Life Behind the Goalie Mask (with Kendra Fisher)
Manage episode 485789163 series 3279858
This week on TRM, I am joined by mental health advocate and former Team Canada goaltender, Kendra Fisher! In this episode, Kendra shares all about her journey - on and off the ice. She talks about how she grew up playing hockey on boys’ teams because there weren’t any opportunities for girls at the time, and how she eventually worked her way up to the national level. Just as she achieved her dream of being selected for Team Canada, she had to make the life-altering decision to step away because of her mental health. We discuss what it looked like to walk away from everything she thought defined her, the reality of living with depression, anxiety, and panic, and the nonlinear path she’s taken to truly heal. Kendra also talks about why she decided to speak publicly about her mental health, and how owning her story has become a powerful act of resistance and connection. This conversation is a reminder that vulnerability isn’t weakness, but rather it’s strength. And healing doesn’t always mean going back - it often means moving forward in a whole new way.
