A Rural New South Wales community is hoping the operation of the local hospital 24/7 during a recent natural disaster will set a precedent for around the clock care.

The hospital in Wee Waa operates between 8am and 5:30 pm anyone needing medical attention outside those hours are forced to travel at least 40 kilometres.

The town was recently cut off by flooding, leading to the hospital being properly staffed to provide medical care.

Rural Editor Emily Minney spoke with State Nationals Leader Dugald Saunders about the renewed push.
