What’s harder—building a global marketing strategy from scratch, or educating your organization on why it matters in the first place? Today’s guest has done both—twice. Sangeeta Prasad is the Chief Marketing Officer of Slalom, a global business and technology consulting firm with $3 billion in revenue and a presence in over 40 markets. With three decades of marketing experience—across brands like Procter & Gamble, American Express, and Chase—Sangeeta has spent her career not just building campaigns, but building belief in the power of marketing. About Sangeeta Prasad Sangeeta is the Chief Marketing Officer at Slalom. She joined Slalom as its very first chief marketing officer in 2020 and now leads a global team of 160 marketers in seven countries. Leveraging Slalom’s strong industry reputation as a consulting company that helps thousands of clients, Sangeeta is building a friendly, engaging brand that reflects the success of the company’s 13,000+ employees worldwide. Her goal is to make the Slalom brand as big as its business, which is experiencing record growth. To do this, she’s transformed a company that relied on traditional marketing into one that thrives on human-based marketing. This is the second time she’s joined a company as its first CMO – also at Russell Reynolds – bringing a strong portfolio of consumer and B2B experience from P&G, Chase and American Express. She lives with a global mindset having started her career in Australia and worked and lived across Asia for years. Sangeeta is known for her courageous yet adaptable leadership style and ability to build consensus across many cultures. Most of all, her leadership style and work are anchored in Slalom’s differentiated “fiercely human” approach to client and partner relationships. Sangeeta’s sophisticated marketing expertise pivoted Slalom’s volume-based tactics into human-based marketing, which combines customer insights with a scalable, consistent methodology to promote relationships. She helped prioritize full-journey marketing and what specific clients care about, including an approach to surround Slalom’s customers around the world with personalized messaging. A Route to Resilience: Recognizing and Supporting Psychological Stress Injuries in Outdoor Culture A LIVE Sharp End Podcast with Responder Alliance Founder Laura McGladrey Part 1: Psychological Stress Injuries in Outdoor Culture As you all know, the guests on my show share outdoor incidents they were involved in. Many of those stories have a physical injury that takes the focus. Say, a broken ankle from a climber falling, etc. In the outdoor and climbing industry we often think of stress injuries as being a physical overuse injury, but this is something different. In 2018, I had the pleasure of interviewing Laura McGladrey for the 34th episode of my podcast. The podcast is titled, Psychological First Aid, and at that time, I didn’t know very much about what that was. It was during this interview that I did with Laura, I learned that I actually have a stress injury from producing this podcast! What I’ve learned in 10.5 years of producing this podcast is the importance of highlighting and creating awareness around the very topic that this episode is all about. Tune in to hear Laura McGladrey, founder and director of the Responder Alliance, explain how and why stress injuries came to be. Make sure to follow up on August 1 for Part 2 (The Route To Healing: Supporting Each Other And Ourselves) of this series! Over the past few years, Megan and Michael had their eyes set on Temple Crag Peak; a 13,000 foot peak about six miles into the backcountry of the Eastern Sierras in California. The two of them attempted it in late July of 2021, and ended up being stuck on the side of the mountain during a thunderstorm for several hours during the retreat. That’s one story… but then they went back this past summer to try again. After a 23 hour day, they made the summit and learned a lot along the way. Tune in to this episode to hear the full story. My guest in this month’s episode set out with a good friend to ski some specific objectives. They started from sea level and toured way up the mountain. This incident happened in Sogndal, Norway. May of 2023, Chris set out to rope solo Virgin Wool (5.8 C2) in Arches National Park. The description of the first pitch read: "5.7 - sporty - no pro.” To Chris, it looked harder than a 5.7 from the ground, and he noticed a seam that he thought he could aid up, so he decided to try and aid climb the route. It didn’t go as planned and he ripped out two cams and fell 10 feet to the ground, landing on his heels before tumbling backwards. In March of this year, Brandon took his wife and a visiting climber from Hungry to the Atlantis climbing area in Queen Creek Canyon near Phoenix, AZ. They were warming up on some easy routes and were all thoroughly enjoying the day. On Brandon’s second lead of the day climbing an easy 5.8, things were going fine until they weren’t. From what Brandon later heard from his belayer, wife, and a bystander who witnessed the event, he was approximately 7-8 ft above his last bolt (the second bolt in the climb) and at clipping level to the next one, when a flake of rock he was using as a toehold sheared off quite suddenly. The flake fell and hit his belayer's hand, who had the presence of mind not to lose the rope. Brandon fell, hit a ledge with his shoulder and then head and then hit the ground 20 feet below. Listen here for the full story. This podcast is produced by Ashley Saupe. This podcast is sponsored by Rocky Talkie, the American Alpine Institute and LIVSN.
