Someone had to say it! So I guess it will be me. I'll cut right to the chase - it's not working because those things don't actually help a child who is struggling. They help YOU feel like you're doing something, and doing something that has been packaged as nicer and "gentler" for your child, even though it's not.

So we'll unpack it today - What these terms really mean, why (from my perspective) parents gravitate towards them even without data to support their efficacy, and where you can turn your attention instead. If you're feeling bad, sad, guilty or confused about why these concepts don't seem to be working, I want this episode to be a weight off your shoulders.
