Fun facts about OJ: he plays the clarinet, is a fantastic chef, gardens like no other, and knows how to speak Chinese. Oliver-John Bright found himself at a highly diverse university in Somerville, MA which led him want to explore the world further. Along the way he learned that contrary to popular belief, studying abroad can actually be affordable, sometimes even CHEAPER than your normal semester in the US. OJ and Kelsey talked for so long that his episode had to be broken up into two episodes - this week OJ gives us a glimpse into what his life was like living and studying in a country that we as Americans learn very little about: China. Lorinda was born into a family that loved to travel so was fortunate enough to do more traveling at a young age than most do in a lifetime. However, after college once she got married and settled down, travel became somewhat of a thing of the past for her. This week we hear how closed doors can lead to new beginnings and that if you think you missed your chance while you were in your early twenties, odds are that you’re wrong, because we’ve got a whole lifetime to explore. Insert problem - the average American doesn't think they can manage the cost and difficulties of travel, so they don’t. Insert solution - The Status Go Project, showing you that you can and should. Hey y’all, my name is Kelsey and I’ll be your host of the Status Go Podcast. I believe if more people felt like they COULD travel, they WOULD travel. The Status Go Project’s whole purpose is to help you with free resources so you can learn how to get abroad, in whichever way makes sense and works for you. It’s normalized and encouraged in other developed countries for young people and people of all ages, really to take time to explore other countries and take gap years. I’m not quite sure why the US is lacking there, but it is. I want to make travel normalized for OUR culture not only because of the indescribable impact it has on the individual, but because the potential cultural impact is so important. I want to give you a peek into the brains of those who have “made it work” both financially and in general so that you can hopefully learn enough/get the courage to take the leap on your own. What worked for me won’t necessarily work for the next person, and what works for the next person won’t necessarily work for you. However bits and pieces of our stories could. I think by telling stories of people who have found a way could help you find yours. There are so many factors that go into extended travel, and how those are going to be worked out is going to look different for everyone. I’m super excited to travel on this journey with you and break the status quo. I’ll see you abroad friends - get gone.…
