Neurosurgeon Drops Bombshell in Karen Read Trial On What Really Killed John O’Keefe
In one of the most critical testimonies yet in the Karen Read trial, world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Isaac Wolf took the stand and offered a detailed medical analysis of the head injuries suffered by Boston police officer John O’Keefe. With decades of experience treating traumatic brain injuries and conducting neurosurgery at institutions like Yale, NYU, and the Miami Neuroscience Center, Dr. Wolf brought serious weight to the question: What actually caused John O’Keefe’s death?
According to Dr. Wolf, the injuries found on O’Keefe—including a non-depressed skull fracture, orbital roof fractures, and brain contusions—were consistent with a classic “coup-contrecoup” injury, a term used to describe brain damage caused by a sudden blow followed by a forceful shift in brain position. He argued that this injury pattern is commonly seen in falls—particularly onto hard surfaces like ice—and specifically ruled out any need for a weapon like a bat or hammer.
Dr. Wolf also pointed to signs like "raccoon eyes" and deep internal hemorrhaging that indicated O’Keefe was not killed instantly but likely became unconscious and declined over time—casting doubt on claims that he was beaten and left for dead. He further stated that the skull injuries were not typical of a direct weapon strike, which would have caused a depressed skull fracture.
For the prosecution, this testimony supports the theory that O’Keefe was struck by a car and fell backwards onto hard ground—while the defense faces a harder road trying to argue intentional blunt force trauma by another means.
Watch this in-depth breakdown to understand exactly what Dr. Wolf said—and why it may change the trajectory of the case entirely.
