In this episode, Shannon welcomes Paula Liub, a burnout expert for ADHD, autistic, and highly sensitive people. Drawing from her own journey through repeated burnout and late-diagnosed neurodivergence, Paula has developed a powerful system that helps neurodivergent professionals not only recover, but prevent burnout from happening again. Her approach blends science-backed strategies with mindfulness-based tools, rooted in her background in psychology, yoga, and over 20 years of mindfulness practice.

Paula shares how her own experiences with burnout-even while doing “all the right things”-led her to realize that high-achieving, sensitive people need a different approach. She explains why neurodivergent individuals are more prone to burnout, the early warning signs to watch for, and how the cycle of guilt, perfectionism, and people-pleasing keeps so many stuck and exhausted.

In this conversation, you’ll hear

  • What neurodiversity really means and why so many are just now discovering their unique wiring
  • The early signs of burnout and why excitement and overcommitment can be red flags
  • Why rest alone isn’t enough for true recovery, and how to start with the basics of self-care-without guilt or shame
  • The importance of nervous system regulation, and how movement, breathwork, and small daily actions can help move stress through the body
  • What the “burnout guilt cycle” looks like in real life, including common scenarios at work and home
  • How perfectionism, people-pleasing, and survival patterns drive exhaustion and self-blame
  • Paula’s practical advice for breaking the cycle: radical honesty, focusing on one area of self-care, and giving yourself permission to let other things take a back seat
  • Why reconnecting with joy, hobbies, and your inner child is essential for healing
  • When to seek professional support, and why you don’t have to do it alone

Paula also shares her favorite resources, how to connect with her, and why every step toward self-acceptance and sustainable wellness matters.
